Mt. Tapulao

Mt.Tapulao has a height of 2037MASL and has a difficulty of 5/9. This is the highest mountain in the whole central Luzon located in the quiet town of Palauig Zambales. To reach the summit you have to walk about 18km and their campsite is located at the 16km where you can see stacks of chromite on the side of the trail. Mt.Tapulao comes from the Zambal word “Tapolaw” which means “pine trees”.

The jump off point here is in Brgy. Dampay-Salaza Palauig Zambales. From here the road is paved for more than 3km so you can take your rented car and from the end of the paved road.

You will see that the first trail you will pass here will be rocky and that is why you will really think that climbing Mt.Tapulao is no joke. The mountain is surrounded by pine trees with its endless and challenging trail to the summit. Along the trail you will experience rocky trails, pine forests and mossy forests.

When you reach 6km there is a source of water that you can drink and refill your water bottles. It has a height of 910MASL.

When it comes to 8km/. The trail becomes more difficult because the rocks here are bigger and slippery so you have to be careful with the steps.

10km there is a watter source again that can be obtained here. The trail is very endless rocky road. While continuing to walk to reach the summit the trail beacomes steeperb mostly at 40 degrees and up. It has a height of 1210MASL.

14km from here you can see the beautiful scenery. As the journey continues you will reach a steep ascent with a pine forested trail. The view of the pine forest is amazing and almost comparable to the Cordillera mountain because of the cold weather and abundant pine trees and the bunker house can also be found here. The area has a altitude of 1720MASL.

16km from here there is campsite where overnight hikers dtay. It is full of pine trees with a beautiful view after resting just continue walking and you will reach the mossy forest.

Inside the mossy forest there is a rich biodiversity. You will see many different types insects as well as different types of flowers and exotic plants It is also surrounded by green moss. There are trees that bear fruit, lush flora and fauna. You will also hear different species of birds.

18km the summit is a small area covered with mossy forest. The Mt.Tapulao summit does not offer spectacular views as it is covered by a forest of bonsai trees.
