How to cook Pork Sinigang one of the famous dishes in the Philippines
Pork Sinigang is a sour soup native to the Philippines. This is one of the most popular types of Sinigang, This dish is fragrant, sour and of course delicious. It also has a radish, onion, tomato, okra, eggplant, string beans, water spinach and sinigang mix.
You can not only make Sinigang with pork, you can also use shrimp, fish and chicken whih is called “Sinampalukang Manok”.
Ingredients
- 900grams pork belly or any pork
- 1 sachet sinigang mix
- 1pc eggplant (sliced)
- 5pcs okra
- a string of beans (cut)
- 3pcs long green pepper
- 2pcs tomatoes (sliced)
- 1pc onion (sliced)
- 2pcs taro roots (cut)
- 2pcs radish (sliced)
- 1pc bunch of water spinach (cut)
- ground black pepper or salt
- 2 table spoon of fish sauce
- Water
- Fresh Tamarind (if you don’t like sinigang mix)
How to cook
- Heat oil in a pot. Saute the onion and tomatoes.
- Add the pork when the onion at tomatoes are sautedd. Cook unitl it turns light brown..
- Pour water into the pot. And let it boil.
- Add the radish and taro roots until the meat is completely soft.
- Add sinigang mix and egg plant. Cook for 3 minutes.
- Add long green pepper, string beans and okra. Cook for 3 minutes.
- Season with salt or fish sauce and ground pepper.
- Add the water spinach and continue cook for about 1 minute.
If you use Fresh Tamarind
- Wash the tamarind and place in a saucepan with 1 cup of water. Boil and cook until the skins begin to soften and seperate.
- Using fork, Mashed tamarinds.
- USing a strainer placed in a bowl, pour the tamarind and liquid. Continue to mash with fork to extract the juice.
- Discard the seeds and skin. Pour the tamarind juice into the pot of Sinigang.
That’s right, it’s easy to cook, but it looks difficult because there are a lot of ingredients. You will definitely like it because the soup is delicious and sour.
If you are not going to use pork in the Sinigang, you will still follow the procedure.
